Unity in Diversity

About Us

The Indian Association of Charlottesville (IAC) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the support and promotion of all aspects of Indian culture as it is a dynamic component of the broader American experience.

The aim of the IAC is to encourage understanding amonst all groups, both diverse Indian cultures as well as within the American community in which we live. We have been active in the Charlottesville/Albemarle County area of Virginia for over twenty years.

Please join us in the celebration of our unique music, art, cuisine, fashion, festivals, sports, and spiritual identy. Indians, while sometimes appearing rather shy and proper, are dynamic, exciting, intelligent, on-the-move people, with a strong can-do attitude - very much like typical Americans. We come from the largest democracy in the world and are quickly finding our place in it.

Like all Americans, Indians are themselves very diverse with many different languages, customs, and beliefs. Indians are proud of their very ancient culture and especially of the non-violent legacy that the majority of its over a billion population hold close in their hearts. India, rare among nations, can proudly claim that it has never attacked another nation in its entire 6,000+ year old history. Yet, Indians are equally proud of their uniqueness and are will fight uncompromisingly until victoriuous in defence of their beloved countries - Jai Hind! and God Bless America! - all in the same breath.

Unity in Diversity is more than just words to Indians, it is a way of life.

Join with us and share our passion for family, tradition, peace, joy, beauty, freedom, and life.

See our Mission Statement and come to one of our events scheduled throughout the year.
